Responsible AI Policy

How Mahad OCR uses AI, and the limits we place on it.

Where AI is used

AI reads documents that the deterministic engines cannot handle, and powers the website assistant. Passport MRZ parsing is deterministic and involves no AI.

Human in the loop

Documents with disputed, unreadable or missing fields, and documents that fail an automatic check, are routed to human review by design. We do not recommend fully unattended processing for decisions that affect people.

No invented data

The assistant explains only fields actually returned by the OCR engine and states plainly when a value is missing or uncertain. It must not fabricate document fields.

Limits of automatic checks

Automatic checks (MRZ check digits, agreement between readers, image-quality checks) only decide whether a person should look; they are not forgery detection and not proof that a document is genuine. They carry false positives — notably for screenshots and re-compressed images.

Accuracy claims

We do not publish a single universal accuracy percentage, because accuracy depends on document type, language and capture quality. Test with your own documents.

What the public assistant cannot do

It has no access to customer documents, other users’ conversations, admin data, invoices or internal metrics, and it cannot change any account.

Provider transparency

The AI provider used for a document is reported in the engine_path field of the result.
